How do I make sure my vote is counted?

 *Important updates

You must apply to request a mail-in ballot and your application must be received by Tuesday, October 20th if you want to vote by mail in the general election.

General Election day is November 3rd, 2020!

Apply to vote by mail

If you want to vote by mail, you must fill out and return a Vote By Mail Ballot Application. You can apply to receive your vote by mail ballot:

  • online with the Maryland State Board of Elections

  • by mailing this form or going in person to:

    Charles L. Benton Building

    417 E. Fayette Street
    Baltimore MD 21202-3432

  • If you miss the October 20th deadline, you can still apply in person through the closing of polls on election day

  • You can choose to receive your ballot in the mail or to download it from the State’s website

Voting by mail

Ballots are sent or posted online ~3 weeks before an election. If downloading your ballot, you will receive an email when your ballot is ready. You must print downloaded ballots and complete your ballot in black pen. You should return your ballot to:

  • Your board of elections (Charles L. Benton Building) by 8 pm on election day

  • an early voting center

  • an election day vote center

  • a ballot drop off box

  • a polling place by closing time

  • Mail your ballot to your local board of elections postmarked on or before general election day

Early voting

Early voting will be held from Monday, October 26, 2020 through Monday, November 2, 2020. Early voting centers will be open from 7 am to 8 pm.

On Election Day

From Baltimore City’s website: Limited in-person voting will be available on November 3, 2020, but this is intended for use by voters who are unable to return their mailed ballots or who never received their ballots.  Due to the risk posed by COVID-19, please do not use the in-person voting centers if you are able to mark and return your ballot by mail or at a ballot drop-off location.

  • Ballot drop-off locations will be posted shortly— for updates, check the Maryland State Board of Elections!

  • Some first-time voters are asked to bring ID to polling places, so make sure to bring some form of identification!
